There are some commonly asked questions about hypnosis. They are usually worded differently by people, but the information they are seeking is usually the same. Below are some of thouse questions.
Hypnosis is not like in the movies. We don't use crystals or watches (Generally, although we can.), we don't put you to sleep, and we don't place you "under my control". Hypnosis is almost like day dreaming, and the hypnotist is simply talking to you, guiding you to find a better place within yourself and bring that out.
No, you can't. In fact, hypnosis is a very natural state that we go into and out of several times during the day. If something were to happen to your hypnotist while you were in hypnosis, the worst that would happen is that you would fall asleep and wake up a short time later. More than likely you woud recognize that something was wrong and come out of hypnosis. There has NEVER been anyone that got stuck in hypnosis.
No one can make you do anything you don't want to do. So I couldn't make you go rob a bank with hypnosis or commit murder. You have a group of core beliefs that make up who you are. These are the values in you that make you "you". If I tried to make you do something against them, you would simply wake up and refuse the suggestion.
That is a special situation. First, people willingly go to those shows with the intention that they may be chosen to experience hypnosis. Second, the hypnotist is practiced at picking the "volunteers" that would be most receptive to hypnosis and those that want to have fun and put on a good show anyway.
Having an above average intellighence actually maked you a better subject. Those of low IQs do not respond as well to hypnosis as those who have average or above IQs. Also, having strong will power is an attribute to being a good hypnotic subject because it allows you to consentrate and focus on the suggestions.
You will not reveal any personal information while hypnotized that you would not reveal in your normal waking state. You also will not say or do anything while hypnotized that is inconsistent with your moral code.
Most people are aware of everything I say while hypnotized, and remember everything after the session. A small percentage of people report total amnesia, and some report partial amnesia, but most people remember everything. The important thing to remember is that everyone responds differently, and however you respond is natural and normal for you.
